Ah, the year of 2020. I can’t wait for our kids to come home one day and there will be a chapter in their history books about this mess. What do you think will be the highlight of that chapter? The Presidential Election? Covid-19? Or maybe the Tiger King. Maybe by then we will have figured out what happened to Carole Baskin’s husband. (hint hint, they totally used fish oil)

Through rough times, I try to take a positive out of the negativity and learn a valuable lesson from it. Because if we only focused on the negative stuff, I think we would all be crazy by now. And I’m a firm believer that you are NEVER to old to learn a new lesson! So what is a lesson that you learn from 2020?

For myself personally, I have had to really work on my resilience to things. I tend to be a more emotional person, so I can get upset or even angry pretty quickly. To say the least, I would never be caught playing poker. There has been many troubling events this year, and while some frustrations can be easily swept under the rug, there are many that can not. But due to my own mental health and staying professional for my job, I had to learn how to be more resilient to the negative Nancy’s. I have got better at keeping a straight face to the anti-maskers and the onslaught of political opinions at my job. Honestly, I’m pretty proud of myself!

Another lesson learned was definitely the idea of self-care. Who knew that self-care could be considered as simple as taking a nap when you need one or go ahead and eat that ice cream! People really had to learn how to slow down because of quarantine and in my opinion, that is a really good idea. Our livelihood revolves around a fast-pace, so take a moment to yourself and SLOW DOWN!

The last lesson I wanted to talk about would be to enjoy those little things in life. I think we hear that phrase all the time, but seldom do we sit down and think about it. I’m someone who definitely lets things build up inside until I want to just explode with emotions, so going at that slow pace of life and remembering the good things that happened to me, from big to small, really puts my world into perspective. Those little things could be anything really, from a compliment you get at work to snagging the last package of chocolate chip cookies at the grocery store. Take those little wins and remember them fondly when life gets you down.

I hope this little post will help you think of your lessons learned in 2020, and maybe you can take something positive out of this year into 2021. Because I really think that after this year, we are strong enough to take on anything!

    Yes, I definitely am one of those “let it all build up and explode” people. I think trying to remember the good things is a great tip.
