Mental Health blog, focused on self-care and learning to love your life!

Good morning Internet!

good morning hello GIF

Let’s get basic, shall we? Everyone loves a good self-care routine. And self-care is all of the rage nowadays. On days that I have off from work, I try to keep up with this routine to get me in the best state of mind to still have a productive day. I know, I know. It can be so difficult to motivate yourself to stay busy. But it’s gotta be done! So enough chatting on, let’s get into the fun part of this blog!

One of the hardest parts is seriously just getting out of bed. I guess I like to burrito myself up during the night, because when you wake up all warm and cozy, wrapped up in your blankets, it’s so hard to unravel yourself and start your day! Because of this, I like to set my alarm maybe 15 minutes before I actually need to get out of the bed. It’s much nicer to be able to wake up slowly and let yourself adjust to the morning than jumping out of bed and running around your house. After I kick the blankets off, I try to stretch my body and let my mind be at ease. Highly recommend it, by the way.

After I get out of bed, I try to remember to make it. Or well, at least my portion of it. My husband is NOT an early bird, to say the least. He’s often up until very late at night, working on some project for work. But I’ll make sure my pillows are put back and my blanket is tucked in. And yes, we sleep with separate blankets. Neither of us likes to share. 😅

Immediately after getting up, I’m getting my teeth brushed, my face washed, and all other important hygiene essentials out of the way. Here’s a list of my favorite products to use for in the morning:

🌞 Up&Up Morning Burst Facial Cleanser – Okay, I know that different things work on different people. But I have never had a problem with this products. One thing that always drives me insane is the rough patch of skin that I have on my cheeks. If it gets to rough, it dries out, flares up red, and stings. This helps so much, I absolutely love it!

🌞 Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula with Vitamin E Body Lotion – This stuff is so hydrating, I can’t say enough about it. It’s soft, it’s smooth, and feels so good all over your body. A little dab will go a long way, and truthfully, I use it every morning and before bed. Plus it smells so GOOD.

🌞 Vaseline 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly – Alright guys, I’m going to date myself a little here. Dry, chapped lips are my worst enemy, and I used to deal with it all of the time. So I’m determined to battle it, and this stuff works the best. But if you wanna use those fancy EOS things, be my guest.

After the gory stuff is done, I am usually the kind of gal who likes to eat breakfast after I get up. I’ll walk downstairs and fix whatever sounds good, I’m not terribly picky. Sometimes it will be leftover Chinese food from the other night. Sometimes its a beautiful brunch with pancakes, eggs, and bacon. You never know ha.

When it comes to this morning routine, the biggest way I can use self-care is keeping a routine for EVERY day, even if I’m feeling lazy or unmotivated. I try to sit down and journal every day, in a journal that I have nicknamed “The Happy Journal”. I know, it kind of sounds silly. But it has purpose. I try to find something happy to talk about everyday, because when I have a bad day, I can look back at the good things that happened the other day and remind myself that things are not always bad. It could be anything too; it could be about how I got out of bed and took a shower for the day, or that I made a great blog post.

Of course not every morning is like this. Let’s be real, staying in bed and sleeping all morning can be a self-care practice as well. And don’t let anyone make you feel bad for that! It’s all about what YOU need. Lay and bed and binge Netflix, or power through the day and workout in those cute leggings and be a super you.

What is your favorite way to practice self-care in the morning? I’m always love reading your comments, so don’t be shy! I also love hearing what other people think of mental health and how we can incorporate it more in our lives. What do you value in mental health? I might make another discussion post about your answer. Until then, have a wonderful weekend!

I’m all about a morning routine, but mine mostly involved journaling, exercising, and a form of affirmations.

Exercising is so good for you! I need to involve it more in my life. Got any exercises you can recommend to me?
